Let's be clear about the fight against acne.

Follow These Lifestyle And Skincare Tips To Ensure That Acne Is Gone Forever

Genetics, hormones, diet, and environmental factors all affect the production of sebum on the face. Therefore, there is no one-size-fits-all solution for acne, but there are some proven habits that can help you win the fight against acne.

SLEEP MORE

Yes, beauty sleep is real. Not having enough time each night is a major factor for many acne patients. The less sleep you have, the less time your skin has to repair itself, and the more sebum your skin produces, which clogs your pores and causes breakouts. You need to sleep for 7-9 hours each night to promote healthy skin barrier function.

FIX YOUR DIET

You are what you eat, a diet high in refined carbohydrates such as white rice, bread and pasta and processed foods such as fried foods and cooked meals will definitely not help your acne.

These foods cause blood sugar spikes and insulin spikes. Too much insulin in the bloodstream can lead to the growth of cells that clog the pores and increase the activity of the sebaceous glands. Instead, stick to whole grains, legumes, lean protein, and lots of fresh vegetables. This not only helps your skin but also improves your overall health and helps you lose weight.

STICK TO YOUR ROUTINE

After a long day at work, you may want to skip the boring skincare routines and sleep straight. No. The dirt, sweat and makeup of the day all clog your pores and ensure you wake up with fresh crops of breakout.

At least wash and condition your face, apply an acne treatment potion, moisturize and then put in a bag.

If you still think it's too much, buys an efficient and versatile skin care product for such a night and don't want to skip your daily life.

BE STRICT ON CLEANLINESS

Anything that touches your face should be cleaned regularly. We talk about makeup brushes and applicators (once a week), pillowcases (once a week), and towels (use new ones every day). Many people are also unaware that we often touch our faces. You may even get your head, massage your forehead, or even put your hands on your face.

DON’T OVER-CLEANSE

You would think that the more you clean your face, the less likely you will break out.

Not really. When you strip your face of essential oils and moisture, you not only irritate your skin and damage your skin’s barrier but encourage breakouts. When your skin is too dry, your body produces more oil to compensate, which causes you to break out.

Wash your face just twice a day (and always after workouts), and follow up with a hydrating toner and a lightweight/oil-free moisturiser.

USE GENTLE PRODUCTS

If your skin is prone to acne, there is no doubt that you don't want to get rid of acne by using make-up and skincare products that clog your pores and contain acne-causing ingredients. If your skin is more sensitive,  learn about the ingredients of the product and how they affect your skin. Common ingredients that cause skin rupture are artificial colours, lanolin, mineral oil, petroleum, isopropyl myristate, fragrances, cocoa butter, and vegetable oils. Choose all-natural non-comedogenic products.

APPLY SUNSCREEN DAILY

Yes, even on rainy or cloudy days. Sunscreen is essential for skin health as it protects the skin's barrier from UV damage. Tanned skin is thin and weak, difficult to heal and protect, and prone to acne. In addition, all its UV exposure exacerbates the inflamed breakout by causing a larger surge of melanin. Choose a non-comedogenic sunscreen or moisturizer that also offers SPF.

CUT DAIRY

Dairy products such as cream cheese, milk and ice cream cause inflammation of the body and exacerbate acne. There are studies showing that milk hormones react badly with our body's hormones and increase sebum production. Try removing dairy products from your diet for three weeks to see if they make a difference.
